Ready or Not Here I Come!

I've been freeze tagged! I've woken up from my I hate my job stupor to total excitement of being freeze tagged... So here's my answers:

1) You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you save?

If I was stuck in Farenheit 451 (of which I now planning on reading) what would I save? I'd have to say Whitman's Leaves of Grass. If I couldn't have any other books, I'd have to save poetry.

2) Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?

Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I swear my DH is my Mr. Darcy.

3) The last book you purchased?

I just purchased The Infertility Cure which is mostly about Traditional Chinese Medicine cures for infertiliy. I've been thinking of finding a good acupunturist anyway for other issues (allergies, lactose intolerance, improve sex drive). I found it on Sara's website, Baby or Bust.

4) What are you currently reading?

Lots of emails for work. Other than that every day I look at my Magical Almanac to see what color I should wear tomorrow. I'm getting superstitious that it's helped progress me moving in a forward career direction. Also is Scott Cunningham's book The Magical Household.

5) 5 books you would take to a deserted island?

Oh my... I have to pick just five! I'll try.
  • Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
  • Emma - Jane Austen (I didn't wimp out and just say the complete works of)
  • I'm going to wimp out here with a series Daughter of Fortune and Portrait in Sepia by Isabel Allende.
  • Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. For those who haven't read this recently, read it again and see if it reminds you a bit of our mass production and consumable goods culture we're becoming.
  • The Harry Potter Collection, as I've only read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but I would like a long vacation on a deserted island to read them all because I couldn't put it down.
Now it's time to bloggy freeze tag someone.... I pick Sara. She seems to have some good book picks already, and she needs to take her mind off some stuff.

Scott Cunningham has written some of the best wicca books to date. Simple flexible and straight forward. It's a shame he's passed.

Found you through Sara.

Allrightie, I have analyzed the questions now for a while . . . and I am going to have a hard time answering some of them, sorry! (I might make a few small adjustments to the question . . )

1. Honestly, my hands can carry more than one book, so I cannot narrow it down to just one I would take! I would say the top FIVE books I have read in a while would be:

*"The Stone Diaries" by Carol Shields
*"Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte
*"Fall Upon Your Knees" by Ann-Marie MacDonald
*"I Know This Much is True" by Wally Lamb
*"The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffennegger

(And yes, I know 2 of these are on Oprah's book list. I didn't do it on purpose, it just turned out that way. For clarification, one I actually read BEFORE she did. ha!)

2. Crush on a fictional Character . . . Let's see . . I loved Pip from "Great Expectations". Don't group me in that Charles Dickens group because honestly, I really don't care for his other books. AT ALL.

Yes, I know it is kind of cheesy, but I really loved Robert Kincaid from "The Bridges of Madison County". When my dad bought me this my freshman year in high school, I stayed up one night and read it . . it is so much better than the movie.

And yes, I know I have already mentioned the book (a lot) but I really dug Harry DeTamble from "The Time Traveler' Wife".

3. I also just bought "The Infertility Cure", which I finished last night. :-) The book I bought before that was "The Baby Trail".

4. I just finished the books above and "The Hobbit", so I am moving on to "The Fellowship of the Ring".

5. Sheesh . . . 5 books I would take to a deserted island? I am assuming I will pick 5 I haven't read, yes?

Okay . . also cliche, but if it were out, I would take the new Harry Potter book. (The Half-Blood Prince) Love them . . the teacher in me comes out. I now have my husband reading them.

I would take the rest of Tolkien's collection, since I am not done yet!

Oh! I would also take these 3 books, since I have not got to them yet:

"Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown
"Lolita" by Nabokov
"Evolution's End" by Pierce

Bouncing Back From Depression

I've been pretty depressed lately. Monday I hit my all time low, which coincidentally was also my dad's birthday. Needless to say I'm sure I'm on his not favorite child list as I forgot to call him I was so depressed. This whole two mortgage thing with no contract in site is really frustrating. Especially when lots of other houses on our block are selling. Our house is really very lovely, just no pool. It has a really flat backyard perfect for putting a pool in though. Anyway, on Monday, Mom called to make sure I didn't forget to call Dad and tell me she read my blog over the weekend and sent me an email about it. Sorry, Mom, I still have yet to check my emails to see what you had to say. Mom told me I needed to bury a statue of St. Joseph in the yard to get it to sell quicker. Wish I knew that sooner. I was going to wait for her to mail me hers, but yesterday I got really mad at myself and wanted to do something to improve my situation, so I found the nea

Bad Dreams Go Away Magic Spell

Wow! Two posts in one day!!! I just had to blog about this. Indigo Girl had posted about her daughter having bad dreams and looking for advice. I had to post what we do in our house to keep away bad dreams. I have to admit it was one of my most brilliant mommy moments as I pulled this one out of my a$$ when I came up with it. When Phoebe was about 3 or 4 years old, she started complaining about nightmares. I knew it was half true and half stalling for bedtime. She has always been very into witches, wizards and spells (heck she was named after the character on Charmed and my due date was Halloween), so I came up with a magic spell on the spot to keep away bad dreams. I figured all it had to do was rhyme. I will share it with you all and feel free to try it if you need it: Bad dreams, bad dreams go away In Phoebe's dreams she must play She should dream of ice cream and cake Until the morning when she wakes She loves it! She still asks for it sometimes if she's had a ni

Phoebe's Fifth Grade School Picture

Here's Phoebe's 5th Grade School Picture.  I really like her in red or bright colors.  She's definitely becoming quite the little lady.
